For my
research paper I focused on bullying, but specifically juvenile bullying and
the rhetoric devices the movement uses. Because of this I think it would be an
interesting approach to focus on teen bullying, primarily focusing on bullying
within high schools. Through this approach I will look into bullying done while
at school, but also bullying that occurs through social media outlets when
teens get home from school.
Within
the artifact I make, my ultimate goal would be to change perceptions of reality.
I will attempt to get the viewer of my artifact to empathize with those being
bullied and ultimately change the way they view bullying. Hopefully making them
see that bullying is not just a word thrown around by adults, but that it is
something that occurs in all schools. In addition
altering the way they see certain circumstances at school by arguing that it
could be bullying. I think altering perceptions of reality is more important
than other
rhetoric goals because by altering perceptions you are creating a stepping
stone to be able to achieve other goals. Ultimately if you convince someone
that bullying is bad because of their now altered perception of it you can get
them to join the movement, which would be beneficial for the eventual goal of
ending bullying completely.
Of
course I can not be entirely sure as to which tactics I will use while creating
my artifact; however I would imagine that I would rely heavily on storytelling.
Storytelling does a multitude rhetorically speaking. It teaches moral values
and lessons, it creates an emotional appeal, and possibly most importantly it
can establish and unify a group. I would strategically choose the story I told
which would hopefully change the way my viewers saw bullying and thus aid me in
my goal of altering perceptions of reality.
