Blog Post 8

The social exigence I will be fighting against for my final project will be the school to prison pipeline centered on the prison industrial complex. The school to prison pipeline is basically the systematically forced removal of black and Latino students from classrooms along with the correlating events that lead majority of those children to prisons later on. The platform I will use for this final project will be a website. It will not only be a website to support victims but also, will also be a place for those looking to get informed about this issue and other closely related.

My rhetorical goal is to shine a light on events that many people are not aware of. I also hope to give support to those people that are apart of communities in which the school to prison pipeline most closely affects and supply them with certain tools to see how this can be stopped. I am trying to achieve widespread awareness for this. I believe this rhetorical goal is most important oppose to others because students and children are the more important part of our community. We always say that children are the future but it is starting to show that some people think that some children should not be a part of this future in a positive way. So if there is any way to get more people to know about this in an effort to cease the activities that are going on within school systems and prisons, then they must be put into action and ultimately, legitimizing the movement and prescribing courses of action.

The language strategies I will rely on within this final project are identification and also storytelling.  I identification will be used  as a way to prescribe ownership to this issue, no matter what side of it you are on.  Most of the awareness of this issue will come from victims of the school to prison pipeline, so mainly first hand experiences through stories from parents, teachers and even government officials.
